Tom Malek is a contemporary artist from Sydney, Australia, working in a process based practice. Exploring ideas of time and space, identity, and collage in the expanded field, Malek works with a wide range of formulaic structures, layering atmospheric imagery, archival readymade images and gestural mark making. Adding, subtracting, and collaging in the photographic plane, the results of this process are all attempts to make sense of their position and perspective relating to the contemporary. Through this process of layering, Malek merges images together to create larger fragmented portrait and landscape series.
